'OUR WONDERFUL LORD'
by Deoram Bolan
'For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet
for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich." He
who knew eternal riches became poor for us, that we might partake of the riches
of His grace, the riches of His goodness and His unsearchable riches (Ephesians
1:7, Romans 2:4, Ephesians 3:8), ultimately to be possessors of the riches of
His glory. GRACE IS GLORY IN THE BUD; GLORY IS GRACE IN FLOWER AND FRUIT
(Philippians 4:19, Ephesians 3:16.)
How poor did our Lord become? He slept in another's manger, He sailed on
another's boat, He slept in another's bed, He rode on another's donkey, He held
the final Passover feast in another's room and instituted the Lord's Supper. He
died on another's cross - Barabbas, and was buried in another's tomb - Joseph of
Arimathea.
He who was virgin-born is the One who gives us the new birth, washing our soul
in His sinless blood and making it a virgin soul (1 Peter 1:23).
"The Bread of Life" began His ministry hungering and the "The Water of Life"
ended His life thirsting. Why? That we might eat of the "Bread of Life" and
drink of the "Water of Life." He who knew weariness (John 4:6) is the One who
provides us with rest from our burden of sin and as we submit to His yoke, we
experience rest for our soul (Matthew 11:28-30). He is the prophesied Shiloh or
Rest-giver of Genesis 49:10, the Prince of Peace sleeping in a ship in the midst
of a storm and when awakened by His terrified disciples, He hushes the elements
with His "Peace be still," (Mark 4:38-41). He prayed on earth and He still prays
for us in Heaven and He hears and answers our prayers, (Hebrew 4:15-16; 7:25).
"The Man of Sorrows": See Him weep at the grave of Lazarus, over Jerusalem, and
in Gethsemane (John 11:35; Luke 19:41-44, Hebrews 7:7-8). He is the One who
dries our tears, as He comforted the weeping widow of Nain whose young son had
died, and He said, "Weep not" (Luke 7:13). Her sorrow was turned to joy as Jesus
raised her son from the dead and presented him to his mother. What a day that
will be when Revelation 21:4 is fulfilled, "And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away."
He was sold for 30 pieces of silver, the price of a slave. Yet He pays our debt
of sin as the beautiful song expresses it, "He paid a debt He did not owe, we
owed a debt we could not pay." Behold, the Good Shepherd who gives His life for
the sheep and yet He is the slain Lamb that stands (in resurrection) according
to Revelation 6, John 1:29; 10:11. He voluntarily surrendered His life to the
death of the cross, but in dying, He conquered death and destroyed the grip of
death for all who trust Him. He is the crucified, buried, resurrected and
ascended Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Resurrection and the Life, (John 11:25; 1
Corinthians 15:54-57, Revelation 1:18).
THE SON OF GOD WHO EXISTED BEFORE TIME CAME TO THE EARTH IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME
(Galatians 4:4) AND BECAME THE SON OF MAN THAT THE SONS OF MEN MIGHT BECOME THE
SONS OF GOD. THE SON OF GOD LINKS WITH HIS DEITY, THE SON OF MAN LINKS WITH HIS
HUMANITY. HE IS JACOB'S LADDER, SPANNING HEAVEN AND EARTH AND THE ONLY MEDIATOR
BETWEEN GOD AND MAN.
