"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," Genesis 1:1. God made day and night, the grass, the herbs, the fruit trees, the sun, moon and stars, the fish and fowl, and all living creatures on the face of the earth. But His master-piece was the final act made on the sixth day of creation, MAN. "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female", vs 27. In His image meaning the spirit of man not his physical being, for God is a Spirit. Then vs. 26 tells us God gave us dominion over the things He created.
What a beautiful world God meant for us to live in and to be blessed with His presence for the Scripture tells us in Genesis 3:8 that "God visited with man in the cool of the day", by whatever means that was. God desired our company. Heaven with all its beauty, and the created angelic beings that occupied it with God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit was not yet all that God desired. GOD DESIRED THAT MAN MIGHT BE PART OF HIS WORLD.
Man lost that place with God and the earth itself was cursed when Adam and Even responded to Satan in the garden of Eden by disobeying God and eating from the Tree of the Knowledge or Good and Evil. Obedience was all God ask of them, but being created with a free will, as we all are, they chose not to obey. Isn’t it hard to even imagine they would do so under the conditions in which they lived. But our adversary, the Devil, is a very persuasive enemy and subtlety is one of his greatest weapons.
So God judged the devil and man in the garden of Eden. There was to be conflict between them but there would come one who would save mankind, Genesis 3:15. Because of sin there had to be a sacrifice of blood and we find that first in Genesis 3:21 where we see that God made Adam and Eve clothing of skins which required the death of an animal to do so.
In Genesis 6:6-7 we read that by this time the wickedness of man was great on the earth and God was grieved in His heart that He made man. Noah was the only one who found grace in God’s sight. You know the story of how he, his wife, his three sons and their wives were the only ones spared in the flood. Thus a new beginning on the earth for man. Again, evil came from the hearts of men. But God had a plan. He brought forth a man by the name of Abraham, and from Abraham He brought forth a nation, Israel, and from that nation He brought forth the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. The very one He spoke to us about in Genesis 3:15.
In the Old Testament God gave the Law and it demanded blood sacrifices for the covering of the sins of the people. This was a type and shadow of what Jesus Christ was to do for us when He came and died on the Cross. We are justified by Christ’s blood (Romans 5:9), purged from sins by His blood (Hebrews 9:14), and without shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22). "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many", Hebrews 9:28, and "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" Hebrews 9:10.
Friends, the Bible says in Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned" and in Romans 6:23 we read "the wages of sin is death." WHAT A GOD that loves mankind. That even after all our deliberate actions to not obey, do everything we can contrary to His Word, He loved us so much He sent His Son to die as a sacrifice for our sins. We can’t buy eternal life, do enough good deeds, or earn it in any fashion. We are saved by our acceptance of the great sacrifice of the holy son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Who came to be born of a virgin, live a sinless life, love and minister to mankind, die on a cross for the sacrifice of man’s sins, be buried, be resurrected on the third day and now is in the presence of God interceding for us. WON’T YOU RECEIVE HIM TODAY!
